IMSTAR has developped a unique approach for fast and easy chromosome imbalance determination using Nuclear Fluorescence Ratios. Two chromosomes (or the two arms of the same chromosome) are painted and the total fluorescence per nuclei in interphase is quantified. The fluorescence ratio per nuclei is compared between test and control samples to determine if test sample presents a chromosome imbalance. This approach has been published for lung cancer and breast cancer by measuring chromosome imbalance on chromosomes 3 and 1 respectively. It is also patented for fast Down's Syndrome diagnostic (Trisomy 21) using chromosome imbalance between chromosomes 21 and 22.
