Rare Events Detection

Detection of rare events in cytopathology is a useful tool, e.g. for identification of rare tumoral cells. Pathfinder Morphoscan platform completed with CellRarity module enables fast screening of samples (up to 200 using "ACCELL SFD robotic device"), object identification and analysis to detect and present rare tumoral cell-candidates to the expert.

Example of ASCUS studies

Atypical Squamous Cells of Undetermined Signifiance (ASCUS) are involved in cervical cancer screening, eventually in combination with HPV screening. Such rare cells are very time consuming to detect and screen by human eye. Image analysis using Pathfinder Morphoscan platform in combination with CellRarity module for monolayer GV™ preparations is a powerful tool supplying pathologists with fast and reliable automated detection of cells with abnormal levels of DNA, with a warning level set at 10% of the overall number of processed slides. In this group the High grade, Low grade and Invasive lesions will be found and classified by conventional pathology screening.

Technical performance:
Total time for hands-free automated screening of 70 000 cells, detection and capture of aneuploid cells and image gallery for review by Cytologist: between 15 and 20 min. The Accell SFD robot has a capacity of 200 slides in one batch in 48h.

CerviK is an integrated system based on this screening method for fully automated inexpensive and high-throughput cervical cancer diagnostic.
